Yuliana Miranda

Yuliana Miranda (b.1994)
For Yuliana, painting has been a practice of dualities—revealed and concealed through color, gesture, and form. Her work is rooted in careful observation that recognizes light as the creator of the sublime, appearing in a small leaf or strands of moss, making color shine. Her paintings capture the presence of history, life, and death—elements that, in both essence and substance, reflect the density of the forest. Yuliana’s work immerses the viewer in her daily ritual, known as Shinrin Yoku (forest bathing in Japanese). Her paintings hold the depth of the jungle at the hour when sunlight filters through the branches and projects inward, carving a path through the darkness. They unfold the duality of existence, of painting, and of the forest itself, offering a vision of the sublime—or Yūgen—not through the contemplation of distant grandeur, but through the overwhelming immensity and intricate detail that emerges from close observation.
Caridad Botella (*) Yūgen is a Japanese term meaning: “a profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe… and the sad beauty of human suffering.”
